Recently, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with New York Times best-selling author Kristy Woodson Harvey. Kristy’s ode to the beach house “Where Summer Stays” appeared in the May issue of Our State Magazine and I was asked to shoot her portraits and show a bit about her life. Kristy lives and works in a gorgeous historic home in Beaufort, North Carolina with her husband, son and Salt, her mini golden doodle. I instantly felt welcome and comfortable with Kristy, who is just delightful.
We started out photographing in her office. How wonderful to see the place where she dreams up the stories that have captured the hearts of so many. I noticed a sparkly crown on her book shelf and Kristy told me the story of how she was crowned the new “Queen of Beach Lit” by a friend. I thought it would be fun to do some photos with the crown and Kristy obliged. Salt stole the show though, as I am told he does regularly. What a sweet dog!
To live across the street from your dock is a treat. The whole family and I boated over to the nearest island to do some more photos. Can you ask for a better background than the waterfront of Beaufort? We frolicked on the sand and enjoyed the view. Then back to the house to photograph on the widow’s walk, just in time for an exquisite sunset.
It was a perfect day!
